About Macotera...
Macotera is unique in terms of its Teresian devotion and the presence of the Carmelite order here. From very early on, many Macoterans became part of the convents of friars and nuns of Carmelo Descalzo. The affection is also expressed in the key of “golden legend” about the Teresian passing through this town, and even a possible foundation project.
This is how D. Clemente Sánchez, a priest from the town, records it. We can document the official beginning of this devotion to Teresa in the festivities of her beatification (October 1614), where Macotera stands out from the other towns of the land of Alba (more than 70) that in those days came to the Teresian town, name by the Duke.
The chronicles (published in Madrid in 1615) record the participation of the Macoterans, especially a group of young people who staged a kind of military parade in charro style, accompanied by the Macoteran authorities, after finishing the solemn mass given by the bishop.
